March 3, 2021: Parish Response to Gov. Abbott’s Latest Actions
To the faithful and friends of St Nektarios Orthodox Church:
Glory to Jesus Christ!
Many of you have heard that Governor Abbott has rescinded his 2020 executive order that mandated and standardized mask and attendance requirements across Texas, effective March 10, 2021. At St Nektarios, we have followed and will continue to follow the guidance of our diocesan hierarch, His Eminence, Archbishop Alexander of Dallas. In practical terms, this means we will continue to observe his existing requirements to wear masks, observe distances indoors, and manage attendance, along with any other directions.
We are excited at the possibility of life returning to normal after this exceedingly difficult year, especially for the possibility of a beneficial Lent and joyous Pascha after the muted celebrations of spring 2020. Nonetheless, we will continue to be vigilant and obedient to our bishop’s instructions until we receive new ones.
It is my earnest prayer that you look at the calendar for the Great Lent before us and plan ahead to participate in the services and upcoming Lenten efforts. May the Lord bless us all.
In Christ,
Fr. Basil Biberdorf
